1 - How do I get to Ouarzazate or Marrakech?
If your tour will originate from Ouarzazate: There are daily
flights from Casablanca to Ouarzazate on Royal Air Maroc. Some of
our clients choose to fly into Marrakech and then take ground
transportation over to Ouarzazate. Regional taxis and buses
depart frequently throughout the day from Marrakech to
Ouarzazate. This 4 hour transfer is a scenic ride over the
Tizi-n-Tichka pass through the High Atlas mountains. Wilderness
Wheels can help you arrange this local ground transportation. A
place on a bus will cost about 55 dirhams (5 euros). A regional
taxi will cost about 700 dirhams (70 euros) if you hire the whole car
(4 places). An air-conditioned mini-bus will be 1200Dh (up to 12 places)
If your tour begins in Marrakech: There are many flights daily
into Marrakech from nearly all major European cities. Consult
your travel agent for the best fares and itineraries to suit your
budget and schedule. You might want to schedule your flight to
arrive in Marrakech a day or two early so that you can do some
sight-seeing in Marrakech before your tour departs.
2 - My flight arrives in Ouarzazate at 11:35 pm. Should I arrive a day earlier?
Because the daily Royal Air Maroc flight arrives in Ouarzazate so late,
most clients prefer arriving a day early. This will allow you some time to sleep in
on Sunday morning or get up and take a walk around town. You
could also use that opportunity to take a guided tour of the film
studios, where numerous movies have been filmed.
3 - Does Wilderness Wheels include Insurance?
All of our bikes are covered by third party insurance, which means if
you have an accident, our insurance pays for the other person or
property, but does not cover your personal injuries, nor damage to our
bike. Each client is required to purchase supplemental personal
medical and repatriation insurance. Be sure that your insurance
covers motorcycling holidays, as many insurance policies exclude such
activities that they consider too dangerous or risky. Consult
your local insurance agency before you come to Morocco. Most
agencies offer one week insurance packages for a minimal cost.
4 - What riding equipment do you provide?
We have a full line of motocross and enduro riding gear, including Fox
helmets, Scott goggles, body armour, Fox elbow and knee pads, Fox and
Shift jerseys, gloves and riding trousers and Fox boots. If you
wear extra small or extra large sizes, you might need to bring some of
your own equipment. Some clients choose to bring their own
helmets, boots and gloves anyway, for their own comfort. In
addition, you will want to bring your own backpack with Camelbak
drinking system.
5 - Can you accommodate riders of all riding levels?
Yes, we have had clients with very little previous off-road experience,
as well as experienced enduro racers. We’ve even had some clients
who came to practice for the Paris-Dakar rallye. We generally try
to combine riders of similar riding experience and skill, however, if
there is a wide disparity of riding skill on the same tour, we can give
a GPS unit to the slower riders so that they can follow along at their
own pace.
6 - What kind of accommodations will there be when I am on tour?
You will generally stay in 3-star hotels, most of which feature
swimming pools, bars and televisions. However, in order to
operate our tours through the most challenging or beautiful routes, in
a couple places we will stay in remote auberges or guesthouses, which
are a bit more rustic in nature. However, you will always have a
hot shower, a delicious meal and a warm bed at the end of the
day. Bivouacs can be arranged upon special request.
Your tour price is based on double occupancy, which means you will be
sharing a room with another client. If you would like to have a
room for yourself, this can be arranged for a supplementary fee.
7 - What kind of bikes do you have?
Our fleet now includes the following bikes:
6 Honda CRF450X
6 KTM 400 EXC
2 Honda XR650R
8 Yamaha TTR250
They are all prepped with
Renthal bars, Acerbis hand guards, sump guards and Michelin T63
tyres. Each bike is carefully maintained by our own mechanic. The
250s, although less powerful, are lighter and more maneuverable and are
ideal for the tight, winding mountain pistes and the technical, rocky
riverbeds of the High Atlas mountains. We try to match the bikes
to your riding level, experience and size.
8 - What itinerary will my tour follow?
Our main tour follows the itinerary that is described in detail on the
Itineraries page of this website. This tour will give you the
greatest variety of scenery and terrain to ride on. It includes
the winding pistes of the High Atlas mountains, the spectacular gorges,
a large field of sand dunes with the highest dunes in Morocco, as well
as the open desert. However, because the weather in the desert is
simply too hot from May through September, our tours during those
months follow our Coastal itinerary originating from Marrakech and
going along the Atlantic coast and up into the High Atlas mountains.
9 - Can I request my own itinerary?
If you are coming with a group of at least 5 and you would like to
request a specific itinerary that is different to our normal itinerary,
please contact us and we will discuss with you the feasibility of the
itinerary you are requesting. It is possible that we might be
able to accommodate your proposed itinerary, depending on the distances
covered, the availability of hotels, and the logistics involved.
Please understand however that the cost will probably be more than our
standard tour price because there may be extra exploration and setup
expenses.
Having said this, we believe that our standard one-week tour will give
you the greatest satisfaction. We have spent a great deal of time
exploring southern Morocco and putting together our itineraries.
We know where the best places are to ride so that you will have a full
day of challenging riding, spectacular scenery and comfortable nights.
10 - Why should I take a motorcycle holiday in Morocco?
Quite simply because Morocco offers you the best combination of
beautiful scenery, challenging and endless pistes, and accessibility to
Europe! Morocco is a beautiful country. From the sandy
beaches of the Atlantic coast, to the snow-capped Atlas mountains, to
the dunes and the vast expanses of the desert, Morocco has it
all. Furthermore, the pistes are as varied as the
landscape. Everyone—from novices to the most experienced
riders—will be challenged. And the pistes never seem to
end. You can ride for hours without stopping to open farm gates
or coming upon paved roads. Finally, Morocco is just a short
flight way from most major European cities. This means that the
flights are affordable and you won’t waste your precious holiday time
traveling and sitting in airports.
